Majesty

This vibrant Kingfisher "Majesty" was created as the first in my UK Colourful Wildlife Series, celebrating the amazing species we have around the British Isles. The signature pop of colour in the Kingfishers feather's, often referred to as a "flash of blue" made this a really fun pastel to create. The mossy branch incorporated a range of different techniques from a blended pan pastel base layer, to bold pastel sticks and sharp leafy details using pastel pencil. I wanted to keep a super soft but colourful background, to give the impression that this Kingfisher is perched amongst some distant foliage, by a pond, awaiting it's next catch!
