Kailua Winter Sunrise
I was blessed to live for many years near beautiful Kailua Beach on the island of O'ahu. On a bitterly cold winter morning recently in St. Louis, my home of 15 years, I was longing for the warm, beautiful sunrises of my dailly walks to the beach park. I endeavored to capture the golden, warmth of those mornings, as I sat and shivered in my cold studio! Painted on sand Pastelmat board with a variety of hard and soft pastels. I employed quite a bit of glazing to get the soupy, dreamy sunrise feel of a tropical morning.
